FR- Paul Costelloe S/S 2011 LFW

WHEN 17th September 2010
WHERE  Somerset House

Paul Costelloe was the first to open the curtains to London Fashion Week at Somerset House.

His Spring and Summer 2011 collection focused mainly on short, feminine,  flirty, waisted dresses, reminiscent of Mad Men, but with hems hiked up to mid-thigh, and worn with metallic biker-jackets and vests.

“ On the runway we saw sleeveless dresses in silvery, sweet lemon colours, cream and beige, and pale geometric silky brocade and lame, which featured a short, bubble skirt to the top of the hips, over a slim, tiered, above-the-knee pencil ”

Costelloe's established his own label more than thirty years ago, and is regarded as one of the London Fashion Week "Establishment" said, like other designers "d'un certain age", he could sometimes feel threatened by the onslaught of young talents wanting publicity and time in the catwalk spotlight.

Girls next summer the look is feminine, pretty and colourful dresses.

Although Costelloe played with flowery print, it was also clear that polished is still very much a la mode.

His six sons closed the show by showcasing Costelloe spring/summer menswear collection. Justin, 28, Paul-Emmet, 27, Gavin, 26, Robert, 22, William, 18, and Nicholas, 16, led the charge, in Edwardian-inspired suiting, with a short and slim silhouette, in shades of silvery-grey and midnight blue.
