John Rocha's AW11

" John Rocha "

Gathering inspiration from the stark landscapes of Iceland, the AW11 collection continues John’s fascination with the stories of shapes and structures - which i totally loved.

John’s palette opens in black and its spectrum is lit with tinseled yarns, sheer silks and laces and lambskins.  Hues of rose, nude and milk in alpaca and angora, ponyskin, honey shearling and silk georgettes, and jolts of crimson scratch stitched in gold and appliquΓ©d with garlands of silk.
Heavily worked pieces in pressed wools and textured tweeds envelop the form in generous volumes, surfaces dense with tumbles and loops of yarns, and tufted threads, hand appliquΓ©d lace and smocked panels. Fluid silhouettes drape the body and fall in soft asymmetry, and worn with air light tuck stitch knits and hand crochet pieces. Figured and tightly structured wools and patchworks create new architectural profiles, the lines softened with combinations of highly textured fabrics.

With a colour palette of black, dark grey, rose, milky white and butterscotch, along with a splash of stitched crimson and gold, Rocha’s collection paid homage to the art of textured handcrafting – with woolly cardi-jackets, crochet hats (which took almost two weeks to make) and an array of fabrics including pressed wool, ponyskin, alpaca, appliquΓ©d lace, shearling and beautiful sheer silks. Rocha’s signature detail was clear in the edges – which were shredded, tufted or looped to create an exaggerated texture.
